- Alexius I Comnenus, Byzantine Emperor of the Komnenos Dynasty 1081-1118 AD, Gold Hyperpyron (4.42g, 30mm, scyphate), Constantinople mint 1092-1118 AD. Obverse: Christ enthroned facing forward, wearing nimbus crown, pallium and colobium, raising right hand in benediction and holds the book of Gospels in left, legend around, “+KЄ RO H ΘЄI”. Reverse: Alexios I Komnenos standing facing forward, crowned and wearing divitision and jewelled chlamys, and holding labarum in right hand and globus cruciger in left, the Manus Dei, the hand of God, reaches towards the emperor in upper right field, “A ΛЄ SIW ΔЄC ΠO TH” to left field, “TW KO MNH NW” to right field. Sear-1913. Some unfortunate crimples to the periphery of the flan, typical of such thin, soft gold, the remaining level of detail is high, Extremely Fine.
