Description
United States of America, Post-Colonial Issues, Æ ‘Connecticut’ Copper (7.89g, 26.5mm), 1787, ‘Mailed and Horned Bust left’ type. Obverse: Bust of a male figure facing to the left, wearing cuirass and with horn (die break) protruding from far-right shoulder, legend surrounds, “AUCTORI· CONNEC·”. Reverse: Liberty, reminiscent of Britannia, seated left on globe, draped and holding sprig aloft in right hand and long sceptre surmounted by cap in left, shield to lower right, date in exergue, legend surrounds, “INDE· ET· LIB·”. Miller 4-L; W-2810; KM-14. Certified and graded by NGC as Almost Uncirculated 53. A charming example of this moderately complicated post-colonial type, the ‘horn’ or obverse die break quite clean and certainly in the shape of a horn, evenly worn.
