Description
Kingdom of Denmark, Christian V of the House of Oldenburg, King of Denmark and Norway 1670-1699 AD, Silver Four Mark Danske (22.05g, 38.5mm), 1685 GS, Copenhagen mint. Obverse: King Christian V’s Royal Cypher doubled (monogram of “C5C5”) surmounted by the Royal Crown of Christian IV. Reverse: Smaller-type Escutcheon charged with the denomination “IIII Marck Danske” and date, over short cross pattée and surmounted by Royal Crown of Christian IV, legend terminating with flower surrounds, “PIETATE· ET· IVSTITIA·”. KM-378; Davenport EC II-3638. Appears a little bright in appearance but with underlying cabinet grey tone, notably well struck with all devices quite clear which is uncommon for the type, a very nice example, near Extremely Fine to Extremely Fine, scarce in grade.
