Description
Argentine Confederation, Córdoba Province, Silver 8 Reales, 1852, Córdoba (city) mint. Obverse: Coat of Arms of the city of Córdoba, spray below, legend surrounds, “PROVINCIA DE CORDOBA”. Reverse: Radiant sun central with face, sun rays of multiple layers behind, date below, legend surrounds, “·CONFEDERADA· 8. RS. 9. DS.”. KM-32. Certified and graded by PCGS as Mint State 63. A very bold and most sought after 8 Reales of Cordoba dated 1852, the final year of the provincial mint’s operation; well struck with fresh dies displaying masterful detail through the coat of arms and radiant sun – very complete for the issue which is often weaker over the central devices, the flan lustrous and lightly toned, nicer in hand and seems under graded in our opinion.
Compared with similar example sales, an MS64 example was sold by Heritage Auctions for the equivalent of approximately AU$3500 at the time – although one grade less, the offered example here is very comparable in terms of the actual coin itself.
