Description
Gaius Julius Verus Maximinus ‘Thrax’ (Maximinus I ‘the Thracian’), Roman Emperor 235-238 AD and the first during the ‘Year of the Six Emperors’, Silver Denarius (2.99g, 18.5mm), Rome mint 235-238 AD. Obverse: Laureate and draped bust of Maximinus I ‘Thrax’ facing to the right, portrayed youthful and similar to Severus Alexander, legend surrounds, “IMP MAXIMINVS PIVS AVG”. Reverse: Providentia stands to the left, draped in stola and resting cornucopia in left arm and holding wand pointed at globe in right, legend surrounds, “PROVIDENTIA AVG”. RIC-13; RSC-77; Sear-8315. A visually appealing and charming piece, particularly in hand, some sharp detail to reverse with lustre, near Extremely Fine.
