Description
Publius Septimius Geta (Geta), as Caesar of the Severan Dynasty under his father Septimius Severus 198-209 AD, Silver Denarius (3.39g, 18mm), Rome mint 200-202 AD. Obverse: Bare-headed and draped bust of a youthful Geta facing to the right, legend surrounds, “P SEPT GETA CAES PONT”. Reverse: Geta, in military attire, stands on the left, holding baton aloft in right hand and sceptre in left, trophy of military spoils on the right, legend surrounds, “PRINC IVVENTVIS”. RIC-18; RSC-157; Sear-7196. Struck on a broad flan and nicely toned with a pleasing cabinet grey, lightly lustrous and far nicer in hand, good Very Fine.
The obverse Latin legend reads “Pūblius Septimius Geta Caesar, Pontifex [Maximus]”, with an English translation of “Publius Septimius Geta Caesar, Chief High Priest of the College of Pontiffs”. The reverse Latin legend reads “prī̆nceps iuventūtis”, with an English translation of “Prince/Leader of the Youth”.
