Description
Roman Republic, the Imperatorial Period, the Triumvirs, Gāius Iūlius C.f. C.n. Caesar ‘Octāvianus’ (formerly Gāius Octāvius) of gens Iūlia (formerly gens Octāvia), Silver Denarius (3.54g, 20mm), Uncertain mint in Italy (Rome?) Autumn 32 – Summer 31 BC. Obverse: Bare head of Octavian facing to the right. Reverse: Pax stands left, draped in stola and holding olive branch aloft in right hand and resting cornucopia in left arm, legend surrounds, “CAESAR DIVI F”. RIC I 252; RSC 69. Nicely toned with a steel grey patina, some reverse marks else a nice anepigraphic obverse type of Octavian prior to his formation of the Principate and the assumption of the honorific name Augustus, good Fine to near Very Fine.
