Roman Republic, Q. Antonius Balbus, Silver Denarius Serratus (3.65g, 17.5mm), Rome mint 83-82 BC. Obverse: Laureate head of Jupiter facing to the right, “S·C” downward to left. Reverse: Victoria, holding laurel wreath aloft in right hand and palm branch and reins in left, commands quadriga which advances to the right, control mark “F” below, moneyer’s name “Q·ANTO·BALB PR” (‘ANT’ & ‘AL’ ligate) in exergue. Crawford-364/1b; Sydenham-742. Minor porosity, nicely toned with a light cabinet grey, very well centred with full beaded border on the reverse, Very Fine, reverse good Very Fine.
