Macedonian Empire, Wars of Diadochi period, Alexander III of the Argead Dynasty, Basileus of Macedon 336-323 BC, Silver Drachm (3.98g, 17mm, Attic standard), posthumous issue, Magnesia ad Maeandrum mint 319-305 BC, struck under the authority of Asander as Satrap of Caria (319-315 BC) or Antigonos I ‘monóphthalmos’ (one-eyed) as Strategos of Asia, during the reigns of King Philip III Arrhidaeus or Alexander IV. Obverse: Head of Herakles facing to the right, wearing lion skin headdress, paws tied before neck. Reverse: Zeus ‘Aëtophoros’ (“Eagle Bearer”) seated left, holding perched eagle aloft in right hand and grounded sceptre in left, drapery flows around his waist on crossed legs, “ΣΩ” monogram to left field, “AT” monogram below throne, “ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔ[ΡΟΥ]” downward to right.
