Description
Lysimachian Empire, Lysimachos, as King of Thrace (from 306 BC) and Asia Minor 301-281 BC, Silver Drachm (4.17g, 18mm, Attic standard), Kolophon mint 301-297 BC, struck in the image of the types of King Alexander III ‘the Great’ of Macedon (336-323 BC). Obverse: Head of Herakles facing to the right, wearing lion skin headdress, paws tied before neck. Reverse: Zeus ‘Aëtophoros’ (“Eagle Bearer”) seated left, holding perched eagle aloft in right hand and grounded sceptre in left, drapery flows around his waist on crossed legs, forepart of lion left above small crescent to left field, pentagram below throne, “[ΛΥ]ΣΙMΑXOY” downward to right, “ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ” below. Price-1842; Thompson-120. Well centred obverse, a collectable reverse control mark below throne, good Very Fine, reverse Very Fine.
