Description
Pamphylia, Aspendos, Silver Stater of two siglos (10.62g, 19mm, Persian Standard), circa 465-430 BC. Obverse: Hoplite advancing right, unarmoured but wearing crested helmet, holding round shield aloft in left hand and spear in right. Reverse: Counter-clockwise triskeles central, “E Σ F” between legs, all within incuse square. SNG Paris-2; SNG v Aulock-4483. Struck from typically worn dies of the Aspendos hoplite types although this particular piece is quite well struck, some very idyllic golden amber tone, particularly on reverse, and an interesting counterstamp, good Very Fine / Very Fine.
