Macedonian Empire, the Alexandrine Era, Alexander III of the Argead Dynasty, King of Macedon 336-323 BC, Silver Tetradrachm (17.17g 24mm, Attic Standard), Amphipolis mint 320-315 BC, under the authority of Antipater, Polyperchon or Cassander as Regents of Macedon. Obverse: Head of Herakles facing to the right, wearing lion skin headdress, paws tied before neck. Reverse: Zeus seated on backless throne facing to the left, drapery flows around his waist onto uncrossed legs, holding eagle in outstretched right hand and long sceptre in left, “Λ” above bucranium to left field, “ΗΓ” monogram (Price monogram 449) below throne, “AΛEΞANΔPOY” downward to right. Price-430. A noteworthy obverse struck in typically bold relief and of quite fine style, good Very Fine, reverse Very Fine.
