Macedonian Empire, the Alexandrine Era, Alexander III of the Argead Dynasty, King of Macedon 336-323 BC, Silver Tetradrachm (17.16g, 25mm, Attic Standard), Posthumous issue, Babylon mint circa 317-311 BC, under the authority of Peithon or Seleucos I Nikator as Satraps of Babylon. Obverse: Head of Herakles facing to the right, wearing lion skin headdress, paws tied before neck. Reverse: Zeus enthroned facing to left, drapery flows around his waist onto crossed legs, both feet resting on a stool, holding eagle in outstretched right hand and sceptre in left, “HYP” monogram within wreath beneath throne, “H” in left field, “AΛEΞANΔPOY” downward to right, “[Β]ΑΣΙΛΕΩ[Σ]” below. Price-3708. A bold Tetradrachm of Babylon struck in exceptionally high relief on the obverse, portraying Herakles in quite powerful style, very attractive in hand, near Extremely Fine.
