Description
Thrace, Byzantion, Silver Tetradrachm (14.96g, 21mm, Chian standard), circa 387-339 BC. Obverse: Bull stands facing to the left, right front leg raised, “Φ” within wreath to left field, “ΠY” above. Reverse: Stippled quadripartite incuse square. SNG Copenhagen-481-2; McClean-4236. With a fresh and minty patina and with quite well struck detail, unfortunately with a point of flat strike over the bull’s head, otherwise a formidable example of the type, near Extremely Fine.
