Description
Henry VIII of the House of Tudor, King of England 1509-1547 AD, Silver Groat (2.57g, 25mm), Second coinage, Initial mark Arrow (1526-1544), Tower mint, London. Obverse: Crowned and cuirassed Laker bust D of King Henry VIII facing to the right, inner beaded border and legend beginning with the initial mark surrounds, “ꞂЄꞂRICⳋ· VIIⳋ: Dⳋ· G· Rⳋ· ΛGLЄ· Zⳋ· FRΛꞂCⳋ”. Reverse: Shield of Arms of the House of Tudor over long cross fourchée, saltires at forks, inner beaded border and legend beginning with the initial mark surrounds, “POSVI DЄV: ΛDIVTORЄ’: ᙏЄV”. Spink-2337E. Struck on a slightly misshapen flan, otherwise with a noteworthy portrait and overall quite visually pleasing, limited points of flat strike, good Very Fine.
The obverse Latin legend reads “Hēnrīcus octāvus, Deī Grātiā, rēx Angliae et Franciae”, with an English translation of “Henry the Eighth, by the Grace of God, King of England and France”. The reverse Latin legend reads “Posuī Deum Adiūtōrem Meum”, with an English translation of “I ordain God as my helper”.
