Description
Calabria, Tarentum, Silver Stater of Three Drachms (7.65g, 22mm, Achaean standard), circa 312-302 BC. Obverse: Hoplite mounted atop horse which rears to the right, naked and wielding with a dory (spear) held aloft in right hand and aspis (shield) with secondary spears in left, magistrates name “ΣA” to field below. Reverse: Phalanthus of Tarentum seated atop dolphin which swims to the right, naked and wielding bow held aloft in left hand and arrow in right, “TAPAS” upward to left, “I-HP” to field below.
