Description
Mysia, Cyzicus, Electrum Stater (16.03g, 17mm, Phocaean Standard), circa 550-450 BC. Obverse: Nude male kneels to the left, holding tunny fish aloft in outstretched right hand. Reverse: Quadripartite incuse square of a mill-sail design. Boston-1487; Von Fritze-112; SNG France-253. Struck on a compact flan of quite lustrous, golden electrum, despite the off-centre strike losing the top half of the fisherman’s face, the remaining detail is noteworthy, particularly on the tuna, a most collectible piece, near Extremely Fine.
