Description
Kingdom of Lydia, time of King Aluáttēs (Lydian: Walweteś) to Kroîsos, Electrum Hemi-Hekte or Twelfth of a Stater (1.19g, 7mm, Lydo-Milesian standard), Sardes mint late 7th century to early 6th century BC. Obverse: Head of a roaring lion facing to the right, “sun” with no rays on forehead. Reverse: Incuse square punch. SNG Ashmolean 757; Weidauer Group XVI, 90. A charming, incredibly small denomination of the electrum series of the Kingdom of Lydia prior to its annexing by Cyrus the Great’s Achaemenid Empire, evenly worn and well centred for the type, near Very Fine, moderately scarce.
