Description
King George V (1910-1936 AD), Silver Shilling error, 1917, Melbourne mint, struck off centre with a broken collar. Obverse: Crowned Bust of George V facing to the left, legend surrounds, “GEORGIVS V D.G. BRITT: OMN: REX F.D. IND: IMP:”. Reverse: Coat of Arms of Australia, date and star below, denomination surrounds above. KM-26. A scarce error for George V, the off-centre strike causing a slightly raised rim on obverse; the lack of milling indicates a broken collar on top of the mis-striking. Minor grazes in fields, otherwise an attractive piece, Very Fine to good Very Fine.
The Obverse Latin legend reads “Geōrgius Quīntus, Deī Grātiā, Britanniārum Omnium Rēx, Fideī Dēfēnsor, Indiae Imperātor”, with an English translation of “George the Fifth, by the Grace of God, King of all the British People, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India”.
