Ptolemaic Kingdom, Ptolemy VIII Euergetes II Tryphon (Physcon), Basileus of Ptolemaic Egypt in his second reign 144-132/1 BC, Silver Tetradrachm (14.19g, 25mm, Ptolemaic Standard), regnal year ΛB (32), Kition mint, Cyprus 139/138 BC. Obverse: Diademed head of King Ptolemy I Soter facing to the right, wearing aegis around neck. Reverse: Eagle stands facing to the left atop thunderbolt, wings closed, regnal year “L AB” above aphlaston in left field, “KI” in right field, “BAΣIΛEΩΣ ΠTOΛEMAIOY” surrounds. Svoronos-1583; SNG Copenhagen-597. Very minor marks and some deposits on obverse, a particularly well struck example and quite pleasing in hand, good Very Fine.
