Description
George V of the House of Windsor, King of the United Kingdom 1910-1936 AD, Silver Maundy Set, 1911, Coronation Year, includes Groat of Fourpence, Threepence, Twopence and maundy Penny. Obverse of each: Bare head of King George V facing to the left, engraver’s initials “B.M.” (Edgar Bertram Mackennal) incuse on truncation, legend surrounds, “GEORGIVS V D.G. BRITT: OMN: REX F.D. IND: IMP:”. Reverse of each: Mark of value central surmounted by the Tudor Crown, date to field either side, wreath of two oak branches surrounds, tied by ribbon below. Bull-3970; Spink-4016. Very light marks to groat, otherwise each virtually as struck, very nice and matching toning, near Mint State if not so.
The obverse Latin legend of each reads “Geōrgius Quīntus, Deī Grātiā, Britanniārum Omnium Rēx, Fideī Dēfēnsor, Indiae Imperātor”, with an English translation of “George the Fifth, by the Grace of God, King of all the British People, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India”.
