Victoria of the House of Hanover, Queen of the United Kingdom 1837-1901 AD, Silver Shilling (5.64g, 24mm), 1856, Type A3. Obverse: Second young head of Queen Victoria facing to the left, her hair double filleted and collected in an updo knot, legend surrounds, “VICTORIA DEI GRATIA BRITANNIAR: REG: F:D:”. Reverse: Denomination central within wreath of oak right and olive left, each branch tied below with ribbon, Saint Edward’s Crown above, date below. Spink-3904; Bull-3007. Deeply toned with a rich gun metal grey, a most handsome example, near Extremely Fine, reverse Extremely Fine.
The Obverse Latin legend reads “Victoria, Deī Grātiā, Britanniārum Rēgīna, Fideī Dēfēnstrīx”, with an English translation of “Victoria, by the Grace of God, Queen of the British people, Defender of the Faith”.
