Empire of Russia, Alexander III of the House of Holstein-Gottorp-Romanov, Emperor of all of Russia, King of Congress Poland and Grand Duke of Finland 1881-1894 AD, Silver Rouble (20.01g, 33.5mm), 1893 АГ, Saint Petersburg mint, under mint master Apollon Grashof. Obverse: Bare head of Emperor Alexander III facing to the right, Cyrillic legend surrounds, “Б.М. АЛЕКСАНДРЪ III ИМПЕРАТОРЪ И САМОДЕРЖЕЦЪ ВСЕРОССIЙСКIЙ”. Reverse: Heraldic charge of the Armorial of the Empire of Russia: double-headed Imperial Eagle, twice imperially crowned, grasping in the dexter claw an imperial sceptre, and in the sinister claw an imperial orb; denomination and date in Cyrillic surrounds below. Edge: Inscription detailing fineness and weight in incuse lettering, “ЧИСТАГО СЕРЕБРА 4 ЗОЛОТНИКА 21 ДОЛѦ ( А • Г )”. KM Y-46; Bitkin-77. Certified and graded by PCGS as Almost Uncirculated 55. With a dusty grey patina, a nice example and a very exponentially expensive type in grade.
The obverse Cyrillic legend is the royal titulature of Emperor Alexander III and has an English translation of “By the grace of God Alexander III Emperor and Autocrat of All Russia”.
