Obverse: Laureate, undraped bust of Simón Bolívar facing to the right, “BOLIVAR” inscribed upon the shoulder truncation, legend surrounds, “LIBRE POR LA CONSTITUCION.”. Reverse: National Coat of Arms of the Republic of Bolivia (comprising the Cerro Rico mountain of Potosí illuminated by a rising sun, an alpaca, a palm tree, and a wheat sheaf, above a curved arc of nine five-pointed stars), country name “REPUBLICA BOLIVIANA” surrounds above, mintmark, denomination, date, assayer’s initials and karat fineness surround below, “·8 S· 1853· F·P· 21·Qˢ·”. KM-116. Certified and graded by NGC as Almost Uncirculated 58. A notably bold AU58 example of the Bolivian Republic 8 Scudos featuring the iconic bust of Simón Bolívar, the ‘El Libertador’; evenly worn and boasting ample eye appeal, a very collectible post-independence from Spain 8 ‘escudo’ type.
