Kingdom of France, Louis XVIII ‘le Désiré’ (‘the desired’) of the House of Bourbon, King of France 1814-1824 AD, Silver Five Francs, 1815 L, Bayonne mint. Obverse: Bare-headed bust of King Louis XVIII facing to the left, wearing elaborate attire and plaque of the Order of the Holy Spirit, engraver’s name “TIOLIER F.” (Pierre-Joseph Tiolier) incuse on bust, legend surrounds, “LOUIS XVIII ROI DE FRANCE.”. Reverse: Royal Armorial of the Kingdom of France surmounted by royal crown and set within wreath of laurel, date below, mintmark and mint master’s mark ‘tulip’ (Pierre-Boniface Darripe) either side, denomination in French surrounds. KM-702.8. Nicely toned with a subtle purple hue, good Very Fine.
