Description
Kingdom of Norway, Frederick IV of the House of Oldenburg, King of Denmark and Norway 1699-1730 AD, Silver Four Mark Danske (21.96g, 40mm), 1723 HCM, Kongsberg mint, under mint master Henning Kryštof Meyer Junior. Obverse: King Frederick IV on horseback cantering right, wearing elaborate cuirass and helmet and sash of the Order of the Elephant, and holds aloft sceptre in right hand, denomination “IIII· MARCK· DANSKE·” in exergue, legend surrounds, “FRIDERICUS· IIII· D· G· REX· DAN· NOR· V· G·”. Reverse: Greater Coat of Arms of Denmark and Norway (1699–1819 AD), mintmark, mint master’s initials “H·C·M·” (Henning Kryštof Meyer Jnr.) and date below, legend surrounds, “DOMINUS· MI HI· ADIUTOR”. KM-220; Davenport EC III-1290. Lightly cleaned in the past with light marks/hairlines, and with flan edge flaw to 5.30h on reverse, typically bold in strike and design, a nice example regardless, Extremely Fine.
