Description
Kingdom of Denmark, Frederick III of the House of Oldenburg, King of Denmark and Norway 1648-1670 AD, Silver Four Mark Danske (21.37g, 42mm), 1666, Copenhagen mint. Obverse: King Frederick III’s Royal Cypher (monogram of “F3”) surmounted by Royal Crown of Christian IV, inner beaded border and legend which terminates with the date surrounds, “·IIII· MARCK· DANSKE·”. Reverse: Royal Escutcheon of the Kingdom of Denmark over short cross pattée and surmounted by Royal Crown of Christian IV, inner beaded border and legend surrounds, “DOMINVS· PROVIDEBIT·”. KM-276; Davenport EC II-3582. Nicely toned with a deep cabinet grey with splashes of blue, some light hairlines which appear trifling when held in hand, a noteworthy example somewhat comparable to the L.E. Bruun example which sold for AUD2760, near Extremely Fine, reverse Extremely Fine.
