Description
Kingdom of Portugal, Miguel I of the House of Braganza, King of Portugal 1828-1834 AD, Gold Peça of 7500 Reis (14.31g, 31mm), 1830, Lisbon mint. Obverse: Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of King Miguel I facing to the right, wearing collar of the Order of the Golden Fleece, date below, legend surrounds, “MICHAEL· I· D·G· PORTUGALIÆ· ET·ALGARB· REX”. Reverse: Shield of Arms of the Kingdom of Portugal supported by two sprigs of laurel tied below with ribbon and surmounted by Portuguese Royal Crown and two floral vines as mantling. KM-397; Gomes-16-01. Appears lightly wiped in the past and with some trifling marks, an ever-bold piece with a very charming portrait, near Extremely Fine.
The obverse Latin legend is the royal titulature of King Miguel I, reading unabridged as “Michaēl prīmus, Dei grātia, Portugaliae et Algarborum Rēx”, with an English translation of “Michael I, by the grace of God, King of Portugal and the Algarve”.
