Obverse: Draped and cuirassed bust of King Charles IV facing to the right, date below, legend surrounds, “CAROL· IIII· D·G· HISP· ET IND· R·”. Reverse: Royal Coat of Arms of the Kingdom of Spain (1761-1868), mark of value and denomination to field each side, mintmark “LME” monogram and assayer’s initials “I J” below, legend surrounds, “·IN· UTROQ· FELIX· ·AUSPICE· DEO·”. KM-101. Minor obverse adjustments and contact marks each side, typical flatness of strike on reverse, a lightly toned, modest example, near Very Fine.
The obverse Latin legend reads “Carolus quārtus, Deī Grātiā, Hispāniae et Indiae rēx”, translated in English as “Charles the fourth, by the Grace of God, King of Spain and the Indies”. The reverse Latin legend reads “in utrōque fēlīx auspice Deō”, translated in English as “under the auspices of God there is happiness on both sides”.
