Description
British Commonwealth, Niue, Queen Elizabeth II (1952-2022 AD), VIKINGS – Gods, Kings, Warriors Series, Silver Two Ounce $2 ‘Odin’, 2015, issued by the Scottsdale Mint. Obverse: Third bust of Queen Elizabeth II facing to the right, wearing royal diadem, necklace and earrings, date below, country, denomination, monarch, weight and fineness surrounds. Reverse: Odin enthroned to the left, wearing winged helmet and simple attire and wielding spear in right hand, accompanied by his animal familiars – the wolves Geri and Freki and ravens Huginn and Muninn, name “ODIN” to left field. Mintage of 1,999; Numbered 1211. Housed in wooden display box with certificate of authenticity and outer cardboard case. A nice rendition of Odin designed by the Scottsdale mint, Mint State.
Odin is a widely revered and major god of Norse mythology and is generally associated with wisdom, healing, death, royalty, the gallows, knowledge, war, battle, victory, sorcery, poetry, frenzy, and the runic alphabet, and is depicted as the husband of the goddess Frigg.
