Description
British Commonwealth, Niue, Queen Elizabeth II (1952-2022 AD), VIKINGS – Gods, Kings, Warriors Series, Silver Two Ounce $2 ‘Ragnar’, 2015, issued by the Scottsdale Mint. Obverse: Third bust of Queen Elizabeth II facing to the right, wearing royal diadem, necklace and earrings, date below, country, denomination, monarch, weight and fineness surrounds. Reverse: King Ragnar Lodbrok stands left, in full attire and wielding axe in right hand and round shield in left, geometric pattern surrounds with Nordic Runes “ᛚᛟᛞᛒᚱᛟᚲ” (transliterated as “Lodbrok”). Mintage of 1,999; Numbered 1054. Housed in wooden display box with certificate of authenticity and outer cardboard case. Bold and desirable design with a nice antique finish, a collectible Scottsdale mint example, Mint State.
Ragnar Lodbrok (“Ragnar hairy-breeches”) was, according to legends, a Viking hero and a Swedish and Danish king of the 9th century AD.
