United Kingdom, Victoria of the House of Hanover, Queen of the United Kingdom 1837-1901 AD, ‘International Inventions Exhibition, South Kensington 1885’, Gold Award Medal (42.65g, 45mm), by John Pinches Medallist Ltd., unnamed as issued. Obverse: Diademed and veiled head of Queen Victoria facing to the left, engraver’s name “L. C. WYON” (Leonard Charles Wyon) raised on truncation, legend surrounds, “VICTORIA REGINA”. Reverse: Allegorical figures of industry seated back-to-back on plinth inscribed “1885 INTERNATIONAL INVENTIONS EXHIBITION”, on the left the personification of Invention seated holding a compass and large sprig of laurel, wheel behind, and on the right the personification of Music seated whilst playing a lyre, “INVENTION MUSIC” to field above. A majestic offering infrequently seen available for commerce, minor hairlines/die polishing lines as usually seen for these large gold proof medals, a very impressive example otherwise, Fleur de Coin.
