Obverse: Draped Figure of Britannia standing facing forward, her head facing left gazing upon laurel wreath within her right hand, her left hand resting upon an oval shield; Merino ram sits by her side amongst various agricultural equipment and industrial elements extending to the background, “STOKES & MARTIN MELBOURNE” in exergue. Reverse: Inner inscription of medallist “STOKES & MARTIN / MEDALISTS / MELBOURNE 1872” within inner beaded circle surrounded by wreath of various flora, outer legend around, “MEDAL STRUCK TO COMMEMORATE THE OPENING OF THE VICTORIAN EXHBITION”.
