Obverse: At the foreground, a sailor examines a ship-wrecked man who washed ashore holding a piece of wreckage. Behind an angel consoles a woman weeping with her child while crowning the sailor with a wreath. To the left, a sailing ship sinks in the background by an escaping row boat; to the right a lighthouse, “SUNT LACRYMÆ RERUM SUNT ET SUA PRÆMIA LAUDI”.
