Description
Mary II of the House of Stuart and William III of the House of Orange-Nassau, as King and Queen regnant of England 1689-1694 AD, Silver Sixpence (2.86g, 21.50mm), 1693. Obverse: Jugate busts of Queen Mary II and King William III facing to the right, each laureate and draped, legend surrounds, “GVLIELMVS· ET· MARIA· DEI· GRATIA”. Reverse: Cruciform Shield of Arms of the House of Stuart, each surmounted by the Tudor Crown, heraldic elements of the armorial of the House of Nassau central within mantle, date surrounds, “MW” monogram in each angle, legend surrounds, “MAG· BR· FR· ET· HI· REX· ET· REGINA·”. The obverse Latin legend reads “Gulielmus et Marīa, Deī Grātiā”, with an English translation of “William and Mary, by the Grace of God”. The obverse legend continues onto the reverse and reads “Magnae Britanniae, Franciae et Hiberniae rēx et rēgīna”, with an English translation of “King and Queen of Great Britain, France and Ireland”.
