Celtic Britannia, the Iceni Tribe, Early Uninscribed Coinage, Silver ‘Norfolk Boar Phallic’ Unit (1.0g, 13mm), circa 35-25 BC, Icenian ‘C’ type. Obverse: Celticized boar advancing to the right, pellet/eye absent on boar’s shoulder, floral arrangement of pellets above, single pellet below, pellets between boar’s hairs. Reverse: Celticized horse prancing to the right, eye comprising of single large pellet, four-spoked wheel and three pellets above, phallic shape and several pellets below. Minor porosity, otherwise very well centred on the reverse and the obverse well struck and biasing the boar’s back end – the wild nature of the Norfolk boar type quite aptly demonstrated on this fine piece, details good Very Fine, somewhat scarce.
