Kingdom of Northumbria, Æthelred II, King of Northumbria early 9th century – mid 9th century, first reign after Eanred and before Raedwulf, Æ Stycca (0.94g, 12mm), Phase II, Group B, York mint, moneyer Alghere. Obverse: Short cross pattée central, legend surrounds, “AEDILRE R[X]”. Reverse: Cross consisting of five pellets central, legend beginning with initial mark cross pattée surrounds, “ALGHERE” (‘G’ retrograde). Spink-865; North-188. Minorly off centre on the obverse, the reverse choice, awash with a nice original green patina, near Very Fine.
