Description
C. Naevius Balbus, Moneyers of the Roman Republic, Silver Denarius Serratus (3.83g, 17mm), struck at Rome 79 BC. Obverse: Diademed Head of Venus facing right, “SC” to left. Reverse: Winged Victoria commanding a Triga to right, control mark “XXV” above, “C· NÆ BALB” (‘AL’ as monogram) in exergue. Sear-309. Deep cabinet tone and fairly well centred on reverse – one of only two denarii that features a Triga. A very similar example was sold by Leu Numismatik but with a banker’s mark. Details Very Fine.
