Description
Roman Republic, Q. Caecilius Metellus, Silver Denarius (3.77g, 19mm), Rome mint 130 BC. Obverse: Head of Roma facing to the right, wearing winged Attic helmet, mark of value below, “Q·METE” (‘ME’ and ‘TE’ ligate) downward to left. Reverse: Jupiter, naked and holding thunderbolt and branch, commands quadriga which advances slowly to the right, “ROMA” in exergue. Crawford-256/1; Sydenham-509. Burnished with a nice obverse patina, well centred each side, a nice example, near Extremely Fine, reverse good Very Fine.
