Marcus Julius Severus Philippus, as co-emperor to his father Philip I 247-249 AD, Silver Tetradrachm (12.00g, 26mm), Provincial Coinage of Seleucis in Pieria, Syria 248-249 AD. Obverse: Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Philip II ‘the younger’ facing to the right, legend surrounds, “AYTOK K M IOYΛI ΦIΛIΠΠOC CEB”. Reverse: Eagle stands facing to the right with wings spread, holding wreath in beak, “ANTIOXIA SC” in exergue, legend surrounds, “ΔHMAPX ЄΞ OYCIAC VΠATO Δ”. Prieur-474; McAlee-1042. A very bold and most handsome piece, despite minor porosity the offered piece is a choice and noteworthy example of the Syria issues, about as struck, near Mint State.
