Description
Vibia Sabīnā (Sabina), Augusta of the Nerva-Antonine Dynasty as the wife of Hadrian 117-136/7 AD, Silver Denarius (3.20g, 18mm), Rome mint 136 AD. Obverse: Diademed and draped bust of Sabina facing to the right, legend surrounds, “SABINA AVGVSTA”. Reverse: Concordia stands left, draped in stola and holding aloft patera in right hand and resting cornucopia in left arm, legend surrounds, “CONCORDIA AVG”. RIC-390; RSC-3a; Sear-3918. Supremely toned with a variety of shades, a nice portrait and the reverse finely styled with deep engraving, good Very Fine, reverse near Extremely Fine.
The Obverse Latin legend states the empress’ name and title, reading “Sabīnā Augusta”. The reverse Latin legend reads unabridged as “Concordia Augustōrum”, with an English translation of “harmony of the Augusti”, with reference to Sabina and Hadrian as Augusta and Augustus.
