Description
Marcus Annius Florianus, Roman Emperor circa July – September 276 AD, Æ Antoninianus (3.66g, 21mm), Serdica mint 276 AD. Obverse: Radiate-crowned and cuirassed bust of Florianus facing to the right, legend surrounds, “IMP C M AN FLORIANVS AVG”. Reverse: Fides stands on the left, draped in stola and holding two signa whilst facing Sol on the right, naked apart from chlamys over shoulder and radiate-crown, raising right hand and holding globe aloft in left, star between, mintmark “Δ” in exergue, legend surrounds, “PROVIDEN DEOR”. The obverse Latin legend reads “Imperātor Caesar Mārcus Annius Floriānus Augustus”, naming the emperor’s regnal name. The reverse Latin legend reads “prōvidentia Deōrum”, with an English translation of “Foresight of the Gods”.
