Description
Marcus Antonius Gordianus, Roman Emperor 238-244 AD and last of the ‘Year of the Six’, Silver Antoninianus, Rome mint 241-243 AD. Obverse: Radiate-crowned, draped and cuirassed bust of Gordian III facing to the right, legend surrounds, “IMP GODDIANVS PIVS FEL AVG”. Reverse: Hercules stands facing to the right, naked, resting right hand on hip and left on grounded club resting on rock, Nemean-lionskin beside club, legend surrounds, “VIRTVTI AVGUSTI”. RIC-95; RSC-404; Sear-8670. Typically bold and struck on a broad flan, desirable reverse type with Hercules, near Extremely Fine.
