Description
Marcus Aurelius Antoninus “Caracalla”, Roman Emperor of the Severan Dynasty 198-217 AD, Silver Denarius, Rome mint 216 AD. Obverse: Laureate head of Caracalla facing to the right, legend surrounds, “ANTONINVS PIVS AVG GERM”. Reverse: Venus stands facing to the left, draped, holding Victoria aloft in right hand and spear in left arm, left elbow rests on shield set on helmet, legend surrounds, “VENVS VICTRIX”. RIC-311b; RSC-606; Sear-6890. A noteworthy obverse featuring a portrait struck in quite high relief and of very fine style, the reverse weakly struck, near Extremely Fine, reverse less so.
