Description
Arcadius, Eastern Augustus of the Theodosian Dynasty 383-408 AD, Æ Maiorina or AE2 (22mm), Cyzicus mint 393-395 AD. Obverse: Pearl-diademed, draped and cuirassed bust of Arcadius facing to the right, legend surrounds, “DN ARCADIVS PF AVG”. Reverse: Arcadius stands forward, head turned to the right, helmeted and cuirassed and wearing chlamys, holding globe aloft in left hand and labarum in right, mintmark “SMKΔ” in exergue, legend surrounds, “GLORIA ROMANORVM”. RIC-29b2.1. Choicely centred and offering a very noteworthy portrait of Arcadius, the piece is overall very pleasing with few problems, far better then often seen, near Extremely Fine.
