Marcus Aurelius Antoninus “Caracalla”, Roman Emperor of the Severan Dynasty 198-217 AD, Silver Denarius (2.85g, 17mm), Rome mint 198-199 AD. Obverse: Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of a youthful Caracalla facing to the right, legend surrounds, “IMP CAE M AVR ANT AVG P TR P II”. Reverse: Spes walking to the right, togate and holding flower aloft in right hand and raising drapery with left, legend surrounds, “SPES PVBLICA”. RIC-26a; RSC-599; Sear-1957.
