Macedonian Empire, the Alexandrine Era, Alexander III of the Argead Dynasty, King of Macedon 336-323 BC, Silver Drachm (4.37g, 18mm, Attic Standard), Magnesia ad Maeandrum mint circa 301-299 BC, under the authority of Lysimachus as King of Thrace and Asia Minor. Obverse: Head of Herakles facing to the right, wearing lion skin headdress, paws tied before neck. Reverse: Zeus seated on backless throne facing to the left, drapery flows around his waist onto crossed legs, holding eagle in outstretched right hand and long sceptre in left, “A•” monogram below throne, head of lion facing left above “Σ” in left field, “AΛEΞANΔPO[Y]” downward to right. Price-1992 var (throne monogram). An attractive drachm, lightly toned and with a choice obverse, most handsome and collectible, details good Very Fine.
