Gallic Empire, Marcus Aurelius Marius, Romano-Gallic Emperor 269 AD, Æ Antoninianus (3.15g, 19mm), Cologne mint 269 AD. Obverse: Radiate-crowned, draped and cuirassed bust of Marius facing to the right, legend surrounds, “IMP C MARIVS PF AVG”. Reverse: Felicitas stands facing to the left, draped in stola and holding caduceus aloft in right hand and resting cornucopia in left arm, legend surrounds, “SAEC FELICITAS”. Quite an exceptional offering of the scarce Gallic emperor, a nice dark brown patina with a clear naming and a decent portrait, the reverse detail of Felicitas is noteworthy as well, details Very Fine, reverse good Very Fine
The obverse Latin legend reads “Imperātor Caesar Marius pius fēlīx Augustus”, with an English translation of “Imperator Caesar Marius, the blessed and pious Augustus”. The reverse Latin legend reads “saeculī fēlīcitās”, with an English translation of “happiness/good fortune of the time”.
