Description
The Diadochi of Alexander’s Empire, Lysimachus, as King of Thrace 306-281 BC, Silver Drachm (4.37g, 18mm, Attic Standard), struck in the image of the types of Alexander III, Lysimachia mint circa 305 BC. Obverse: Head of Herakles facing to the right, wearing lion skin headdress, paws tied before neck. Reverse: Zeus seated on backless throne facing to the left, drapery flows around his waist onto crossed legs, holding eagle in outstretched right hand and long sceptre in left, forepart of a lion left above “Η Δ” monogram (Price monogram 459) to left field, “Φ Π” monogram (Price monogram 389) beneath throne, “ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ” horizontal below, “[ΛΥ]ΣΙΜΑΧ[ΟΥ]” downward to the right. Price-L1. Although engraved with quite shallow facial features, Herakles is portrayed in quite fine style, fairly well centred for the issue and a touch scarcer in the name of Lysimachus, good Very Fine to near Extremely Fine.
