Mn. Cordius Rufus, Moneyers of Imperatorial Rome, Silver Denarius (3.77g, 18mm), Rome mint 46 BC. Obverse: Crested Corinthian helmet oriented to the right, crest surmounted by owl which faces forward, moneyer’s cognomen “RVFVS” upward to left. Reverse: Aegis of Minerva decorated with Gorgoneion, the head of Medusa, moneyer’s praenomen and nomen “MN· CORDIVS” surrounds. RSC Cordia-4; Crawford 463/2. A touch unevenly struck although quite easily overlooked, the condition is noteworthy and very attractive in hand, a very collectible imperatorial period denarius, Extremely Fine.
